On Monday, December 04, 2023, an online networking event was held with the Non-Profit Organization ” KyklOIKOdromio”.
During the event, the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE Project was presented, its objectives and implementation actions, which are expected to be implemented in its eight (8) year duration. Particular emphasis was given on the reuse/repair centers and the network of second-hand shops that will operate supporting the centers. Reference was also made to the actions of food waste and agricultural waste prevention that will be implemented and the re-announcement of the open call for proposals for demonstration actions.
The NGO presented the Circular Economy Actions for all, which include (a) the creation of the first Cyprus-wide online platform for exchanging, buying, selling, donating and repairing used objects and (b) the creation of the first Lending Library of Things in Cyprus, which are funded by the U-SOLVE.
We were also informed about the following actions that are implemented by the NGO:
• The “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle” Workshops for people with an immigrant background, as part of the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Center. Within the framework of the Center for Social Solidarity and Networking project “TO STEKI”, three (3) activities were carried out in the form of a workshop on the theme “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle”. Through this interactive workshop the participants learned how to separate waste at source, what are the recycling practices followed in Cyprus and how our daily habits can reduce waste production and thereby protect the environment.
• The 9 principles of the circular economy (9Rs) in the elementary schools of the Municipality of Strovolos in collaboration with the Municipality of Strovolos. This action will be implemented in the Primary Schools of the Municipality of Strovolos, with a total of approximately 2,180 students.
Potential synergies were discussed between the Non-Profit Organization “KyklOIKOdromio” and the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE Project, as regards actions to educate immigrants and primary school children.
Communication and collaboration will be strengthened in the coming months in a variety of ways.
