On Tuesday, March 05, 2025, a networking meeting was held between the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE Project and the European Project “Waste Wisely Cyprus”, implemented by IMH.
During the meeting, the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE Project was presented, its objectives and implementation actions, which are expected to be implemented in its eight (8) year duration. In addition, the various waste management facilities were presented (Green Kiosks, Decentralized Composting Units, Reuse/Repair Centers, etc.) that will be implemented with a variety of complementary funds, which will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Municipal Waste Management Plan 2022-2028 and the National Waste Prevention Program. Moreover, special emphasis was given on food waste and agricultural waste prevention actions that will be implemented, and on the promotion of education, information and awareness raising actions of the Project, as the possible common ground for cooperation between the two Projects.
Next, the IMH team presented “Waste Wisely Cyprus” Project, which through the “Information Measures for the Common Agricultural Policy (IMCAP) of the European Union”, aspires to raise awareness among consumers and stakeholders (i.e. HORECA businesses, hotel owners, retailers) about food waste and its economic and environmental impact, but also to encourage them to take measures to prevent food waste. In more detail, it was stated that the ultimate purpose of this Project is to help inform citizens and provide advice to consumers of different age groups, on how to reduce their daily food waste in simple, practical and easy ways.
At the end of the presentations, a constructive discussion followed on the possible ways of cooperation between the two Projects, as a result of their common goals and challenges.
