On Friday, November 17, 2023, the LIFE IP CYzero WASTE Project team visited the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Center in the Municipality of Oreokastro, Central Macedonia Region. The said WEEE Sorting Center was created in the framework of the “Life ReWeee” Project, with the cooperation of the company “Recycling Devices SA”, the Green Fund and the Municipality of Oreokastro. Its aim is to promote both the reuse and the preparation for reuse of Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

During the visit, a tour of the Center took place, during which employees presented the WEEE management procedures and stages that follow (reception, sorting, separation, recording, repair and storage stage). Afterwards, a discussion was held with Mr. Stavros Mylonas, representative of the Center, regarding the pillars that support its successful operation, citing the benefits and statistics from its operation until now. Finally, the challenges and difficulties faced were highlighted.

The purpose of this visit was to inform and exchange knowledge to ensure the smooth operation of corresponding infrastructures in Cyprus, which are planned to be implemented in the framework of Action C5 of the LIFE IP CYzero WASTE Project. This Center acts as a model and highlights best practices for the development of similar infrastructures in Cyprus.
