The LIFE IP CYzero WASTE project team organised the online info event “Foodwaste prevention actions: Experiences and Survey” on Monday, March 6th, 2023, at 10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m. The theme of the online event was “Food waste prevention actions, Experiences and Survey”.
Speakers presented their ideas, experiences and survey, with the aim to motivate new collaborations and actions in the field of food waste prevention.
At the event, the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE project was presented, its goals and concrete actions that will be implemented during its eight (8) years of duration. Also, the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), presented the results of the 1st and 2nd survey carried out during 2020 and 2021 in enterprises within the LIFE-FOODprint Project entitled “Awareness-raising campaign to prevent and manage food waste among consumers, the food and hospitality industries”. The survey concerned the recording of the challenges in the management of food waste in hospitality, catering and catering businesses with significant findings and the comparison of the 2-year results. For information, within March 2023, the 3rd survey will be completed within the LIFE-FOODprint Project, which concerns the monitoring of changes in the attitudes/behaviors of employees in businesses since the implementation of the awareness campaign for the prevention and management of food waste among consumers, food and hospitality industries for the year 2022.
Mr. Pantelis Kyriakidis, representative of the Zero Food Waste Cyprus initiative, an Initiative which launched in 2018, presented its actions which are held at the People’s Market of “ΟΧΙ” every Saturday and in occupied Kyrenia every Wednesday. Moreover, the obstacles they face, as well as the quantities of the waste that has been salvaged and channeled to vulnerable groups, were mentioned.
Mr. Alexandros Theodoridis, co-Founder and administrator of the NGO “Boroume”, presented the contribution of the organization in question to the support of vulnerable social groups and food rescue from 2011 until today, the challenges and obstacles that were overcome. Also, the actions of the NGO were presented, which are related to social solidarity and environmental protection and focus on the food cycle, information and awareness at all levels of education, producers, etc.
Finally, Mrs. Anastasia Bomba, partner – project manager, and Mrs. Aikaterini Demertzi, head of administration central market of Thessaloniki S.A., presented the actions from the participation of the Central Market of Thessaloniki S.A. in the project “Supporting Social Enterprises in combating poverty and social exclusion (“Social Plate”)” and the actions to be implemented by Central Market of Thessaloniki S.A., within the LIFE-IP CEI-Greece Project.
